Salvia nemorosa L.

Flora Europaea the original Linnean specimen ; as it can be easily seen, the holotype of the species from the Linnean collection resembles Salvia nemorosa ssp. tesquicola from the steppe and forest-steppe areas west and north of the Black Sea. This is no surprise since Linne got its specimen from Traugott Gerber who collected a lot of other plants for him from the steppes north from the Black Sea; so seemingly what is today calledSalvia nemorosa ssp. tesquicola  is in fact the type of Salvia nemorosa. perennial, H, 2n=14, diploid mesoxeric to mesic, from the forest-steppe to the uppernemoral belt Central European-Mediterranean Festuco-Brometea, Mesobromion, Onopordion, Convolvulo-Agropyrion, Quercetalia pubescentis, Artemisietea R34, R87, R4160-4162 habitats     A forest-steppe species at its origins, this species easily turns into a ruderal, especially along the verges of the roads.
